Borneo — Mountains, Rivers & Ancient Rainforest
register your interestThe Journey
Sabah from cloud forest to lowland rainforest — birding Mount Kinabalu and Rainforest Discovery Centre, watching orangutans in the Kinabatangan Wetlands, and ending deep inside the epic wilderness of Danum Valley.
The journey begins in the cool forests of Mount Kinabalu, where Borneo’s endemic birds change with every rise in altitude. We then move into the canopy at Sepilok’s Rainforest Discovery Centre before taking to the Kinabatangan River. Here oxbow lakes and flooded forest hold hornbills, Storm’s Stork and proboscis monkeys, while wild orangutans feed quietly above the water.
The finale is Danum Valley: an immense protected tract of primary rainforest and one of Southeast Asia’s great wildlife experiences. Dawn comes with gibbons and the wingbeats of hornbills; patient forest walks give us chances for pittas, bristleheads, orangutans and a remarkable supporting cast of mammals, reptiles and insects.
